100 things I want to do before I die
“You are never really playing an opponent. You are playing yourself, your own highest standards, and when you reach your limit, that is real joy.” Arthur Ashe
Once upon a time, a man – and he shall be nameless, created a list of “100 things I want to do before I die.” It’s said he has just completed the last one. Now these “aims” included such amazing feats as climbing Mount Everest. Personally, I would have imagined that my family and friends’ aims may be limited to getting through the night. But, checking it out, I learned I was wrong.
Asking around, this is what I learned. My younger brother, whom I knew had been a military parachutist then jumped as a hobby ‘chutist into county fairs and one nudist colony, and came in second breaking the world’s record for free fall jumping. You know, jumping the farthest without opening his chute. Great but not for me.
Another friend – female— hopped on her little motorcycle and drove cross country alone. Again, not for me.
Instead, I’ve tailored my 100 dreams’ list to tamer and less dramatic aims.
I want to bake the best British scones in town.
I want to live as “full of beans” as I can until I no longer can.
I want to be as good a friend as I can be to my loved ones.
I want to own black dress high heel boots.
I want to give my animal companion the most pleasant life possible since he does that for me daily.
I want to worry less and laugh more.
I want to learn how to take better photographs and then how to sell them.
I want to keep writing until I am at least 90. Okay, 92.
I want to realize that when others don’t “get” me, it’s okay.
I want to enjoy my wonderful two sons, however they turn out but I hope they turn out well.
I want to live on a beach. One without sharks.
I want to swim with dolphins.
I want to fall in love again one last forever time. Your turn.

Action for the Day
Just for fun, I’ll start this year by writing a list of as many things as I can think of that would bring me joy to do in my lifetime. So what if I don’t do them all? And then again, maybe, just maybe, I will.
